In tandem with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a digital India, KVIC (Khadi and Village Industries Commission) has gone digital with most of their initiatives being processed online.
To start with, the digitization of the Prime Minister Employment Generation Program (PMEGP), the online applications received by the program's nodal agency KVIC from July 1, 2016 has touched 404354.
Digitization, according to KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena, also brought in transparency and expedited disbursement of margin money subsidy under the PMEGP scheme.
Further talking of the digitization initiatives taken by KVIC, Saxena said that they have also introduced online submission of application by the prospective beneficiaries and the payment of margin money subsidy is directly made into the beneficiary account through direct benefit transfer.

"With the digitalization of the whole process, not only the applicants can now track the status of their applications at any point of time, it had also taken out even the minor chance for middlemen - to bluff the applicants," he added.
Similarly, the KVIC had also digitalized the entire payment process of Market Promotion and Development Assistance(MPDA) for supporting implementation of Khadi programme.
"Under the modified MPDA scheme, financial assistance of 30 percent of prime cost of khadi and polyvastra has been provided to institutions - which will be distributed amongst 40 per cent each to artisans and producing institutions and 20 per cent to selling institutions through online transfer to artisans," Saxena added.
Among other digitization initiatives, Khadi institutions have started filing their claims online and payments made by KVIC to Khadi institutions for interest subsidies is also made online.
